Let’s Improve Our Life in Tennis

There is a move being initiated by some of our tennis enthusiasts to form a Classification Council to once in for all to classify and agree on the classification of each player in Puerto Princesa City. The objective is to come up a master list of all players classified according to its present class which will be used as reference by any club, group or any person in hosting tournaments on various occasions particularly in our upcoming PPC Interclub Tennis Tournament.

The first meeting occurred at Badjao Inn, Rizal Avenue last February 17, 2009 which was attended by the following named representatives from the different clubs;

Butch Ferrero – ABABTC

Mar Bengaño – ABABTC

Dem Castillo – NFWTC

Rommel Carbonel – PPCTC

Mike Mendoza – PPCTC

Boy Caabay – Iwahig TC

Dokie Maggay – Iwahig TC

Arnold Magbanua – Capitol-NIA-PNP TC

Their next meeting will be on May 3, 2009 at the same venue which will touch in coming up a regulation on how to upgrade or downgrade the classification of each player.

They are expecting more meetings in the future to agree and establish on other related policies and regulation that will help improve the conduct of tournaments such as standard concept of tournaments, incorporating of new players in the circle and the like. Likewise they are even looking forward in organizing the Palawan Tennis Association and eventually to be affiliated with the Philippine Tennis Association.

This is one of the many steps that the clubs have been waiting for to improve their life in tennis, starting from the nitty-gritty games scheduling, implementation of the agreed rules and to the manner how to conduct the tournament proper. They may not perfect the system, but together they can and they will always try to be better. But more than that, they are concerned about the very essence of all these moves; camaraderie, sportsmanship, physical conditioning and even their individual responsibility on court courtesy and etiquette.
